It is said that it allows users to edit photos in more detail than the Range Dynamic Standard Dynamic (SDR) images, even after capturing them. These images appear with brighter highlights and darker shadows, without losing any of the details on HDR compatible screens. However, it is also equipped to display them normally on non-HDR displays, ensuring maximum compatibility.
The report adds that Ultra HDR images on Google Photos have a small file size compared to the main images. This is attributed to them using a smaller gain map, a file that contains bright information and adds masks to offer the best viewing experience to SDR and HDR screens.
Notably, the resource was the first reported To be under development in September 2023, but was not officially available widely at the time, forcing users to move the application to activate it.
The Ultra HDR tool on Google Photos is being launched for all users globally.
