I equalized my type game with these 7 simple gboard features

As with most Google products, I constantly switch between Gboard and its Many options. I spent a good period with the Open Source keyboard Heliboardwho enjoy its simplicity and privacy-concept concept. However, as I recently jumped aboard Pixel and the New Galaxy Train, I decided that I would probably commit to Google’s keyboard for the foreseeable future.

For the most part, it has been brilliant by using Gboard on modern Google and Samsung hand sets, but it was still not as comfortable a pillow as I wanted. So to maximize my GBOARD play, I have reassessed the app’s practical features, settings and shortcuts and fine -tuned these to better suit my typing style and increase my productivity.

My Gboard toolbar, which gives me many ways to command the text I channel through it, was a bit of root. The app offers around a dozen quick buttons that you can freely reorganize on the toolbar over the keyboard and when you press the shortcut button. I ensure that these icons are arranged in the order I use them most to increase my writing effect. I do this on every device I use.

Your event will probably be very different from mine, but here is my toolbar set up in order from left to right:

• Clipboard
• Gif
• Settings
• Text editing
• Translate

GBOARD allows up to five icons on the toolbar, so any emission options can be reached by pressing the irreparable shortcut button. Here I can find other things like Theme,, Liquidand ResizeAlthough I don’t need these much, if ever.

While I am in the topic of the actual toolbar, I also exchange on Show recently copied text and images in proposals the option in Clipboard Settings Tree.

Like most Google apps, Gboard flush is just waiting to be utilized. Given, many of them are not as immediately obvious, and Gboard does not do a good job of exposing them to users.

Still, once you are aware of them and place them in the daily workflow, you will not be able to live without them. They are incredible to strengthen your writing performance.

Here are some of my favorite GEBRETT movements:

• Press and hold, then swipe left and right on space to move the cursor through your text.
• Swipe left on Backspace/Delete The key to removing whole words.
• Activate one -hand mode on the right side by pressing along Go key. For left people, long -pressed comma key.
• You can access common punctuation marks by pressing along Full stop Icon. You can also swipe up from ?? 123 The key to accessing some more, but this is a bit of a clunkie.

I utilize this changing shortcut fully

It is nothing more annoying than gating automatically changes the case of a word. Fortunately, it is a quick way to jump through lowercase letters, sentence cases and all caps without too much fuss.

Highlighting the intended word and pressing the shift key will do the trick. It is a small but brilliant time -saving and means that I do not need to jump into Editing modeTrack back to the problem word and adjust the case manually. I use this trick so often that it deserves its own separate entry on this list.

However, I sometimes need the power of editing mode to cope with more extensive texts.

My smartphone replaces several items in your pocket, including a dedicated paper notebook. As a result, I note my thoughts on my device itself. This also means that after I dumped my points on the screen, they require plenty of editing to make it something usable. This is where Gboard’s dedicated editing mode comes in.

To access it, press Caret icon With two small arrows on each side. As mentioned, I keep it on my toolbar for easy access. When enabled, the keyboard will transform into an directional pad with Select In the center, so you can easily jump between characters and grab all words. Right side offers Cut, copy, paste inand Backspace options, while the two lower icons allow me to jump to the beginning or end of my text wall (corresponding to Home and End on a physical keyboard).

I really want a compact version of this baked on the keyboard and Google has something listened to my occasions with it Regret and Convert Buttons. However, I have not yet received this feature on my devices.

Free-typing without aids is one thing, and it is my preferred method of writing quick messages, but to really increase the speed of the writing speed on the gboard, you need some support from the app itself. To ensure that the brain is constantly growing and the recommendations remain accurate, I sometimes want to tap the words it suggests. I do this when I am not squeezed on time and have a few moments to let Gboard generate the options.

Of course, the more often I do this, the more often the gboard recommends the word I have the most intended to use in every situation. This is easy to forget too. For me, this whole process is still a work going on, as I do not use Gboard’s suggestions almost as often as I should.

I prefer to write messages manually without Gboard’s help. When it comes to printing incredibly long words, regular sentences or favorite concepts, however, you only tap on an option on the Trumps toolbar to print the entire string. Even more important is that the better trained Gboard’s suggestions, the better the sweeping experience will be.

I tend to correct myself manually when I print a message, try not to rely on Geboard for this too often. But I reassessed this stupid idea and realized that some help would go a long way. I make frequent typos when using a new phone with an unknown design and screen size. All this is to say that I have finally buried the text correction settings on GBOARD again.

To review these settings, press COG and navigate to Text correction. Here you will find a laundry list of items that control how Gboard treats your text.

Here are the items I turn on and on:

• Next word suggestions: On
• Do not suggest abusive words: Of
• Suggest contacts: Of
• Auto correction: On
• Undo automatically on backspace: Of
• Autospace after punctuation: Of
• Auto -capitalization: On
• Double room period: On
• Spell Check: On
• Grammar Check: On

I made my personal dictionary a smart text extension

Finally, do not look past the utility of your personal dictionary. Although it is meant to store words you often use (like South Africans, it means terms like “Braai” and “aweh”), you can use it as a native text extension tool.

To give you a better example, when I pick up my loved ones from work, I will tell her that I will leave. In the past, I would manually print: “I go in a bit”, or something similar. But by using my personal dictionary, I added the whole sentence as a word and saved it with the shortcut “Ilb.” Now, when I write the three letters, Gboard automatically suggests the entire term on the toolbar. I can just tap it and send the message.

You can do this for so many text strings, from your address to a long combination of text or characters that are easy to forget (like the car’s plates). If there is a line of text that you constantly print, this little trick will save you minutes every day.

To access your personal dictionary, press COG, and then select Dictionary> Personal Dictionary. Select the language you want, then press + Button to add words/shortcut combinations.

You can and should store regular words in the dictionary, but this little trick will massively increase your GBOARD productivity.
