These are the first settings I change on a new smartwatch

Each time I set up a new Smartwatch (which is often in this profession), I adjust a variety of settings right outside the bat. From Last Apple Watch to Pixel Watch 3The process varies depending on what I turn off, but many general considerations apply to any unit. For the most part, I look for opportunities to maximize the lifetime of the battery, customize my device and get the most out of each laptop. To be open -minded, many watches offer basic guidance, but I know most of these training programs by heart. Below are the extra changes I make to ensure that I maximize my experience and do not end up with standard settings (looking at you, notification center).

1. Customize the clock overview

Smartwatches is about personalization, and the bell face is the gateway to your experience. It is the first area where you can make adjustments, so I always start by choosing a face style, design and complications that are best for my needs. I add shortcuts to my most widely used apps (usually workouts and spotify) and prioritize the data fields I want to see in an instant (date, weather, activity details). 2. Managing notifications

When my fresh face is in place, my next move is to dig into the companion app and customize the notification settings. Personally, I disable most app alerts, as I don’t need them on the wrist (eg, switching news notifications, sports score, Amazon updates, TIKTOK). I keep activity alerts enabled and maintain mirroring basic smartphone alerts such as messages, calls, calendar events and e -post.

Other features vary depending on the device I set up. For an Apple Watch I activate manually Press to view full noticea feature that is automatically on most other devices. For a new Pixel watch, I activate Mute alerts from the phone (When using your phone), a setting that is automatically on Apple’s watches. Depending on the brand, I also do not configure disturb the mode and schedules, including sleep mode. Nothing is worse than being awakened by an unnecessarily smartwatch warning.

3. Determine activity goals

Many people buy wearables for their Fitness tracking Features, but activities on activity and step counting are only valuable if they are tailor made for you. I always customize my activity goals to reflect my personal goals. I also activate Auto detection for workouts on supported devices and disable reminders of hydration-I know I will not follow through (I am an undisciplined desert plant).

According to WHO, the average adult goes around 5000 steps a day without concentrated effort. Adding an informal mileage will up that count with about 2000 steps. Depending on your activity level, sample targets may be 5000 (a recovering sofa pot), a classic 10,000-step count (an average Joe), or upwards 30,000 (for aggressive ambitious types). I tend to set a moderate step goal (around 12,000 steps) and then focus on activity minutes (aiming for 60 per day).

4. Maximize health tracking

Not all health monitoring functions are activated by default. For each new device I manually check the settings for sleepstress, spo2 and heart rate Tracking. I continuously activate heart rate monitoring when possible and activate notifications for irregular rhythms and abnormal heart rate. For sleep tracking, I activate charging reminders, so I don’t go to a low battery. If SmartWatch includes mindfulness features to handle stress, I adjust the fast frequency to avoid causing extra stress. I also activate the hand -washing timer (when available), as it helps me to keep me healthy.

5. Customize shortcuts, buttons and voice assistant

Navigation is another area where I like to customize. For some watches, this means adjusting the button and shortcut settings to streamline the interaction. For example, Galaxy Watch allows extensive button adjustment in the advanced settings menu, while Apple Watches let users create shortcuts through the shortcuts app.

Because I do not cope with the sound of my own breath during workouts, I always prioritize making music available. This means adding a Spotify snarve on the Apple Watch Series 10 and putting the action button on Ultra to open Spotify. A double press of the home key on the Galaxy watch does the same.

Units with voting assistants often allow custom commands for frequent tasks. Diving into a device’s accessibility menu will reveal even more options, including touch housing.

Adaptation does not stop with input; You can also adjust the device output. I usually fine -tune vibration settings and notify sounds of my preferences. I like prominent haptics because I have a living imagination and often think I feel a vibration when I don’t. Increasing the device’s haptics makes it easier for me to distinguish real notifications. For Apple Watches, I also activate the “cover to mute” feature.

Other adjustable outputs include screen settings, such as text size and brightness. I always shrink the text size to fit more of my messages on the screen, but time will tell you how this affects my long -term vision.

These are just a few important settings you need to consider when setting up a new smartwatch, but there is much more to manage. You can enable security features as a PIN code, specify app update settings and even set up tools such as finding my and contactless payment, both of which require further configuration.
