- Google can offer users a new selection of shortcuts under the search box in a future release of the Google app.
- We have seen an early version of the renewed user interface with three instead of four shortcuts.
- The new shortcuts can give users quick access to Search’s upcoming AI mode, voice search and lens.
The Google app can soon get a smaller user interface in the preparation of the upcoming AI Mode for Google -Search. Google seems to be working to offer users another selection of shortcuts under the search box, which includes one for the conversation experience.

Currently, the Google app’s website has on Android and iOS four shortcut snaps under the search box. These shortcuts allow you to quickly perform an image search, translate text, get help with homework or perform a song search. However, we have seen a new selection of shortcuts that can replace these options in the latest beta of the Google Home app (version 16.6.23).
As you can see in the attached screens, the updated homepage has three slightly larger shortcut buttons under the search box. The second and third shortcuts appear to be the same as the shortcuts of voting and lens already available in the search box. Although the icon in the first shortcut is similar to the Google icon uses for Gemini Live, we believe it can launch Search’s upcoming AI mode.
In addition to this icon with two more vertical lines than the Gemini Live icon, we have discovered code referring to this shortcut as “Search Live.” This is probably an alternative name for AI mode in development, which, as we recently reported, can have another icon together.
Given this inconsistency and the fact that the updated website has duplicated shortcuts for voting and lens, we suspect that this user interface may undergo further changes. We will follow future development and update this post as soon as we have more details.
