The founder of Pebble wants to relaunch the E-Paper smart watch for its fans

With that code, Migicovsky can address the second reason for a new wink; Nothing has replaced the original. In his blog, Migicovsky defines the nucleus of Pebble’s appeal: the Always-on screen; long battery life; A “simple and beautiful user experience” focused on useful essential elements; physical buttons; and “hackable”, including personalized mornings.

Migicovsky writes that a small team is approaching the aspect of the hardware, making a watch that executes pebbleos and “basically has the same specifications and characteristics as Pebble” but with “new and fun things too.” Crucially, they are taking a different path from the original Pebble company:

“This time, we keep the simple things. The emphasis is on sustainability.

Ars asked Migicovsky by email if modern pebbles would have a better interoperability with Apple iPhones than the original models. “No, even less now!” Migicovsky responded, pointing out the demand of the Department of Justice against Apple in 2024. That demand states that Apple “limited the functionality of third -party smart watches” to keep people who use Apple watches and then, as a result, less likely to change iPhones.

The central functionality that Migicovsky detailed in his publication, Ars wrote, was still possible in iOS. Certain advanced characteristics, such as responding to notifications with voice dictation, can be limited to Android phones.

The Mygicovsky site and blog do not establish a timeline for the new hardware. Its latest important project, the application of multi -protocol BEEPER chat, was sold to the owner of WordPress.com Automatic in April 2024, after a prolonged battle with Apple for access to its Imessage protocol.
