Google Drive has received many Gemini-related features in recent months. However, many of these features first come to Google Drive online before they get to the Android app. We have now discovered that Google Drive on Android could soon earn a PDF summary through the PDF viewer. Furthermore, the ability to summarize files through the File Viewer window will also support selecting multiple files to summarize them together.

Google Drive online already serves Automatic PDF summary. Now Google Drive V2.25.250 includes Android code for PDF summary through Gemini. We managed to activate the feature ahead of the release to give you an early appearance:
Over the course of an near future, users will probably be able to summarize PDFs that are either stored in their Google Station or received via Google Drive. For this, they do not need to leave the PDF viewer and ask Gemini within the station to summarize the file -instead they will be able to trigger the Gemini from the PDF viewer. Users will be able to click on the three-point icon in the upper right and select Summarize this file option. They can also tap the Gemini icon in the heading and enter the request to summarize PDF.
Note that this feature will hardly work with offline PDFs that you open through Google Drive’s PDF Viewer, so don’t try to summarize downloaded files. Your best option would be to keep the PDF files on the station to get a summary.
Unfortunately, these PDF summaries are not displayed automatically, as they are online. However, this will not be a big deal, as you will be able to initiate a summary for any PDF you need summarized.
In addition to all this, the file summary feature will also make it easier for users to summarize multiple files and folders. It will be very easy to select multiple files, as users are likely to be able to choose more PDFs and documents by pressing them long. We managed to activate the feature ahead of the release for an early appearance:
Users will also be able to select a folder with the files, but they may be limited to selecting just one folder. We could not make the process work when several folders were selected, which you can see on the last screen above, where the Gemini icon no longer stays highlighted. Fortunately, there seems to be no limit to how many PDFs and documents you can choose, which will easily serve most needs.
