- While previously developing, the final version of the 90/10 option adds along with the existing 70/30 split, instead of replacing it.
Most Android phones have high, rectangular screens that can only fit just one app on the screen at a time. In a pinch, however, you can use Androids shared screen mode to multitask by two apps side by side. This mode usually shares the screen, with one app on the top half and the other on the bottom, but you can also change them to a 70/30 split. Now, with the first Android Canary Release, a new 90/10 split screen configuration is available.
Android’s new ratio at 90:10 allows you to shrink one app to just 10% of the screen, allowing the other to occupy the remaining 90%. This setup allows you to focus on a primary app while holding a secondary within reach. Using an app that takes up 90% of the display feels almost identical to full screen mode. While the 10% app is too small for active use, it is easy to expand it: Just press it and it will switch places with the larger app and change to pick up 90% of the screen.

Google has developed the 90:10 Split screen feature since the beginning of the yearand we earlier reported that it may appear In a quarterly release of Android 16. When we first discovered the function, it had a major disadvantage: the 90:10 relationship replaced the existing 70:30 split instead of supplementing it. Fortunately, the Android Canary release includes both 70:30 and 90:10 conditions, a welcome decision that avoids alienating users who prefer the old configuration.

Although the feature went live in July Android Canary release, this is not the first public appearance. It is part of Android 16S source code and already sends some Android 16-based operating systems, As Samsung’s One Ui 8. In the development of this feature, it seems that Google has drawn inspiration from the Oppo’s boundless view of the Multitasking system, even though Oppo has stated that Bido Direct the Function to Android. Regardless, it is great to see Google Improve Android’s shared screen mode, as the stock experience has often felt glowing compared to the more advanced multitasking features that OEMS offers.
