- Honor has launched the Magic V5 and claims that it is “the world’s thinnest foldable.”
- The Magic V5 beats Oppo Find N5, who previously had the thinnest folding title, and will also turn the Galaxy Z Fold 7, given the latter’s rumor thickness is true.
- The main disadvantage of Honor Magic V5 is its limited availability and the low probability of coming to the United States.
In just half a decade since the first folding phones began to hit the market, the segment has become much overflowing and competitive. The relative news in the category, compared to Candy Bar phones, leaves room for innovation and ways to make it more acceptable and mainstream. In this persecution, Honor announced the Magic V5, the latest book-style-counting phone, with allegations of the title “The world’s thinnest foldable.“
The previous master of this regard was Oppo Finn N5Measures 8.9 mm when closed. Honor snags the profits by claiming that Magic V5 only measures 8.8 mm when folded. We, as only humans, would not be able to tell which of the two is leaner, but it does not falter from Honor’s claim.
When it is opened, Magic V5 is 4.1 mm thin, which in turn is insignificant less than Find N5. By the way, V5’s dimensions also prove their claims against the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7Which is expected to be 8.9 mm and 4.2 mm respectively when folded and unfolded. Of course, it can change when Samsung officially launches the folding phones next week.
The phone comes in four colors: Dawn Gold, Silk Road Dunhuang, Velvet Black and Warm White, the last of which also weighs at least out of the gang. Besides the white weighing 217g, they measure the other 222g on the scale.
Despite its slenderness, Honor’s folding features are slightly less inner and outer screens than colleagues from Oppo and Samsung. The inner screen measures 7.95 inch diagonally (against 8.12 inches on the found N5), while the outer display measures 6.43 inches. Both of these are OLEDs with a 120Hz update frequency. Honor says these screens achieve a top brightness of 5000 nits while playing HDR content and supporting high heart rate wave modulation frequencies (PWM) to make sure your eyes feel less stressed when using the phone in low light.
Honor Magic V5 is also well stocked for specifications, and runs a Snapdragon 8-elite chipset, complemented with Honor’s self-designed E2 chip for better energy efficiency. There are storage options up to a terabytes, while 12 GB and 16 GB of RAM options are offered based on the storage configurations. Driving Honor Magic V5 is a 6,100 mAh battery, which can be charged on 66W using a wired charger and 50W with a proprietary wireless charger.

The triple cameras on the back include two 50MP sensors for the primary and ultra-angle shooters and a 64MP Periscope Tele for long-distance shot. Both screens have 20MP cameras for selfies and video calls. All of these cameras, including the front facing, support 4K video recording.
Magic V5 comes with Android 15 and Honor’s Magicos 9, containing a number of generative AI features powered by Deepseek.

The one aspect in which Honor Magic V5 loses to competitors is the availability, which is currently limited to China. Considering the previous foldable, Magic V3Was more accessible in parts of Asia and Europe, we can expect the same from the V5 as well. The Magic V3 was unveiled at the IFA fair in Berlin last year, and this is where we could see the V5 debut this year as well.
Magic V5S prices start at CNY 8,999 or about $ 1,250, although it cannot be used as a parameter to measure prices for international markets, where Chinese products are usually more expensive than direct conversions.
