- Two US legislators have asked the trading department to examine OnePlus phones for potential security risk.
- Their concern is based on an analysis shared by a named company that suggests that OnePlus may collect and send sensitive user data to servers in China without consent to the user.
US legislators have reportedly asked for the trade department to investigate whether OnePlus phones sold in the country are security risk.
The request is reportedly from representative John Moolenaar, a Republican head of the China House Committee, and the committee’s top democrat, representative Raja Krishnamoorthi. Their letter to the trading department, set of ReutersAwakening concern for potential collection and transfer of user data of OnePlus phones sold in the United States.
The legislators noted that OnePlus-Hand set is widely available through large dealers such as Best Buy and Amazon, and operates on US wireless networks including T-Mobile and Verizon.
According to the letter, an analysis provided by a commercial company to the Committee suggests that OnePlus devices can collect and send extensive user data, including sensitive personal information and screens, to servers in China without explicit consent of users.
They have asked the trading department to assign their information and communication technology and service programs to investigate the matter, focusing on the data one -plus units collect from users in the US and whether sensitive information is transferred without the user’s consent.
As you already know, the US government sees data transfers from US units to Chinese servers as a serious national security threat. In April 2025, the Ministry of Justice introduced Strict rules Limitation of certain data transactions with China and other “concerns.”
OnePlus has not yet commented on the investigation, but we will reach the company for an answer.
