What the heck is Samsung up to with the technology that drives it S Pen stylus?? A while back we heard rumors that the Galaxy phone manufacturer was considering a new tracking system for the S pen in its upcoming Z Fold 7. It has been fresh on the head this week, following a report claiming that the same technology can reappear with the Galaxy S26 Ultra (check our video cover above, which starts on the 30-second mark). And just when it felt like we might have started to see what Samsung could have up to with this new S Pen approach, a new rumor has us back to scraping our heads.
Let’s back up a rapid refreshment: Samsung’s approach to pen tracing with S Pen has historically involved the use of a digitalizes panel built into the phone’s screen that tracks a lightly, upowered stylus. And although this has the advantage of giving us a stylus that is small enough to store in the phone itself (most of the time, anyway), the presence of that digitize also contributes to the general telecommunications thickness.
For Fold 7 we first heard that the phone can turn the script on that solution, remove the digitize To slim down the phone down and instead put more electronics in the pen itself. While it sounded like it meant a thicker S pen, we were not worried about carrying it internally in the first place.
