- Google recently announced users that Gemini from 7 July 2025 could help with apps such as phone, messages and WhatsApp, regardless of whether the Gemini Apps activity is turned off.
- The vague wording IE post raised privacy considerations, with users unclear if Gemini will still have access to these apps even after selecting.
- While the e -post said users can disable these features in the “app settings”, it does not offer specific steps to do so.
- Google has now clarified what the change really means and how it will not affect the privacy of users who do not want the Gemini chats to be reviewed or used to train AI.
Update: June 26, 2025 (23:04 ET): Google has responded to an e -post request from Android Authority Clarifying what the coming 7 July Gemini changes on Android devices really mean. You can read Google’s complete statement below:
This update is good for users: They can now use Gemini to complete daily tasks on their mobile devices such as Send messages, start phone calls and set timers while the Gemini Apps activity is turned off. With Gemini Apps activity turned off, the Gemini chats are not reviewed or used to improve our AI models. As always, users can turn off Gemini’s connection to apps at any time by navigating to https://gemini.google.com/apps.
This means that Gemini will work more like a local assistant on your Android device and can now still help with basic tasks even if you have disabled the Gemini app activity. When the Gemini app activity is turned off, something you can do by navigate here Or from the Gemini app’s settings on Android, your chats with the AI assistant will stay private and will not be used to train AI. You also have the ability to disconnect Gemini’s access to apps from the link above shared by Google.
While the wording IE -post may have worked in the first No important reason to worry. Gemini can access messages, WhatsApp and System Settings, but your privacy remains protected as long as the Gemini Apps activity is turned off.
Original Article: June 26, 2025 (01:33 ET): Google’s Gemini -Team apparently sends out e -post messages about an upcoming change of how Gemini interacts with apps on Android devices. E -posten informs users that, Come on July 7, 2025, Gemini will “help you use phone, messages, WhatsApp and tools on your phone, either the Gemini Apps activity is on or off.” Of course, this has raised some privacy problems among those who have received the E -post and those who use the AI assistant on their Android devices.
Not only has the ambiguity in the statement triggered confusion about Gemini wanting access to the said apps and services even if users have chosen Gemini apps, but the e -post further notes that those who do not want these features to disable them, without clarity on how to do it.

Google’s vague guidance to select this change reads: “If you do not want to use these features, you can turn them off on apps settings.” There are no details about where you can find the option or what is being disabled, especially since the e -post says these changes will apply if Gemini Apps activity is on or off.
Link IE -Posten is allegedly redirect users to Gemini Apps Privacy Hub, Which unfortunately does not give much clarity on what is changing. What does “help you use” in practice? Will Gemini be able to read or send messages, access call logs or interact with third -party apps such as WhatsApp by default, even when users have chosen these integrations?

With the rollout less than two weeks away, we have reached Google for answers. E -posten was highlighted by tipster Cid on xas well as of other Users. I use Gemini on my Android devices, but I haven’t received the e -post.
