With almost 10,000 exams carried out in one year, Gourdons MRI stands out as a large medical asset on the property and enables the practitioners to dress from the facility.
It was a little more than a year ago that the gourdon hospital had an MRI to meet the needs of its patient. After a spectacular air installation in January 2024, the device is fully functional and the service works at full speed. “The meetings were quickly honored by the users,” said hospital director Anne Paris. Gourdon has thus become the second city on the property that holds an MRI with Cahors.
Almost 10,000 exams carried out within the facility
The health center attracts patients from the entire department (from north to south) who go through the Dordogne and Corrèze. “We are shorter on time than other facilities such as Cahors, about a month and ten days. It remains interesting for you outside of the emergency room,” says Anne Paris. In 2024, the service conducted 3,370 exams with this advanced equipment and 5315 between January and May 2025: “We gradually went up”. Radiology service started with 200 monthly exams and gradually increased its capacity. In July the facility hopes to reach the 400 brand.

“All employees are very proud of MRI and are very happy to meet patients in a rural environment,” says the structural manager. A total of eight radiologists and nine radio manipulators are formed to use this device. Doctor Daniel Portalez has been working in the gourdon hospital for ten years. He directed the installation of the machine and did not hide his joy to work: “It was a difficult fight to get it, but it was in the interest of everyone. We avoid traveling. We were said” yes “if we had a team after and it’s done”. An “effective and complete” group in their words.

A point of attractiveness for practitioners
Today MRI is also a lever for the attractiveness for the hospital and motivates the relatives of the health professions. By specifying the postal leaves, this medical equipment in the facility was available that Anne Paris was able to attract radio-manipulators, but not only: “Supervisors are interested in an activity and modernization project, which motivates them to work with us,” says the director of the hospital. The medical imaging apparatus also appeals to emergency doctors who sometimes need the exams of the examination quickly. The presence of the equipment enables you to get faster. “We had this chance that I hope that other hospitals also have the opportunity to install their MRI. Today it is not an extraordinary diagnostic instrument, but necessary for the result of an illness such as cancer, explains Anne Paris, it enables early screening.”
