While all three major US wireless suppliers offer optional tablet plans for both prepaid and postpaid customers, official tablet support is actually much less common in the prepaid world. That’s why I was excited when I stumbled upon a Reddit thread claiming that straight talk now has tablet plans. Apparently I was not the only one who was interested as the post quickly rose to the top of the hot list on No contract su width.
As it turns out, verizon actually announced these changes For total wireless and straight talk customers back in February, but the news seems to have flown under the radar for many. While Total and the Right Talk differs in planning structure and marketing, the new tablet plans are universal across both Verizon Value Brands.
There are two plans offered: a base plan with LTE speeds for $ 50 a month, or a 5G plan for $ 60. It’s definitely steep for a standalone tablet plan, but the good news is that you save $ 40 if you sign up for (or already have) a phone plan with one of the carriers. It brings the price down to only $ 10 and $ 20 a month respectively.
Apart from the 5G support, the base plan also offers only 5 GB Hotspot access versus the 30 GB with the 5G plan, and 720p streaming instead of full 1080p.
Normally, the right talk and total add tablet plans will not be newsworthy this late after the fact, but I will be honest: There is really no better option out there if you want unlimited tablets. While Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile all offer prepaid and postpaid tablet plans, you usually pay more-and you won’t find really unlimited options in most cases. For example, T-Mobile starts at $ 10 a month for 2 GB of data and tops to 50 GB for $ 50 a month, plus taxes and fees.
In fact, the only official unlimited tablet plan I could dig up the Cricket Simply Tablet plan, which gives you unlimited data on AT&T’s network for $ 15 a month, even if it requires a telephone plan. That said, this plan does not include hotspot access and is limited to SD speeds. It is possible there are others out there from smaller or more obscure suppliers, but the point is that your official options remain limited.
How about just using an e-SIM data plan from elsewhere?
The truth is that you do not necessarily need to use an official tablet plan, so many Prepaid ESIM plans Will activate on a tablet just fine. Of course, you can potentially offend the terms and conditions, and you may need to jump through a few braces to make it work, depending on the carrier, plan and unit you use.
You will also find that most ESIM plans that support tablets (even unofficial) end up costing more if you want unlimited data, or you will pay a similar price for less. For example, some users have reported getting visibly basic to work with selected tablets.
To be fair, this will provide a similar experience as total and straight talk, but you have to jump through the braces, such as activating on another device, and you may risk getting your account flag for abuse. You will also pay a little more, as visible basic is $ 25 a month.
If you do not need unlimited data or do not mind the extra steps, many ESIM plans from us mobile and other carriers can work and can even save you money. The same may be the case for prepaid or postpaid tablet service from the three major carriers. But if you want unlimited, you will be hard pressed to find a better deal without a greater commitment.
