Google offers to adjust search results to promote rivals, avoid the EU Antitrust Fine

Alphabet Google proposed more changes in its search results to improve rivals in an attempt to avoid a possible EU antitrust, according to documents seen by Reuters.

Google’s The last proposal occurred three months after the European Commission accused the US technology giant of favoring its own services, such as Google Shopping, Google Hotels and Google Flights on rivals in violation of Digital Markets Law (DMA).

The DMA milestone sets a pros and cons for the great technology that aims to control its power and give rivals more space to compete and consumers more options.

Under Google’s new proposal, a vertical research service (VSS) selected in objective and non -discriminatory criteria would receive its own box at the top of the search page with the same format, information and resources that Google said the document.

Caixa would contain three direct links chosen by VSS, hotels, airlines, restaurants and transportation.

Other VSS, which are Google specialized search engines, would be classified below, but without a box unless users click on them.

“We do not agree with the preliminary position of the (commission), but without prejudice we want to find a viable solution to resolve the present process,” said the documents sent by Google and the Commission to the rivals.

Rivals will provide feedback at a July 8 meeting convened by the commission. Several rivals, which did not want to be named before the meeting, told Reuters that the changes do not yet go far enough to secure a field of play.
