- Google cleans up Android’s “Sound & Vibration” settings in the upcoming Android 16 QPR1 update.
- Instead of a long list, settings the new layout groups in distinct categories such as “sound patterns” and “sound.”
- The volume slider also gets a modern design, while other options are moved to make the page feel less messy.
After more than 16 years of development, Android OS is packed with features. If they were not organized, it would be a mess. For a long time it felt just like Android’s audio settings page felt, but Google finally cleans it up in the next quarterly release of release of Android 16.
After installation Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 On our pixel unit we noticed that Settings> Sound and Vibration The menu has got a big cleanup. Instead of presenting all settings in a single vertical list, the latest Android 16 QPR1 bets them by category. For example, the “phone ringtone”, “standard alert sound” and “Standard alarm sound” options are now grouped under a new “sound pattern” part. Meanwhile, “Spatial Audio” and “Media” articles are under a new “audio” part. The five volume slider stays at the top of the page but they have been updated with the more modern Material 3 expressions Design seen in the volume panel. Furthermore, the “sound” sounds the sound of “the entry no longer difficult between the media and conversation volume gliding switches, but has been moved to the top.

I’m glad to see Google finally start cleaning up Android’s audio settings in Android 16 QPR1. This is something I complained Back in 2023, when I noticed that Google reorganized many other pages in the setting app while leaving the audio and vibration page. Material 3 Expressive Redesign, which places menu elements in separate cards, goes a long way in making the Settings app feel less messy. However, the sound and vibration page previously undermined by keeping all the options in a long, vertical list. While the new page still has too many settings under the “System Sound and Vibrations” section “at the bottom, it is much better than before.
