Elon Musk revealed on Sunday that Xchat, the new Direct Message Resource (DM) of the social media platform, will offer Bitcoin style encryption. Currently available in Beta in X (previously known as Twitter), XChat is a new offer for paid subscribers. In addition to encryption, the messaging tool will also come with escape messages, audio and video call capacity and file sharing support. The social media platform has not revealed when XChat will be widely implemented for currently eligible users.

XChat is based on the rust programming language

In one publish In X, Musk shared more details about the platform’s underdevelopment messaging tool. XChat is built in the rust programming language, designed for safety and speed. It was originally developed by Mozilla Research and has gained wide popularity in recent times. It is used by platforms such as Dropbox, Cloudflare and Discord.

The billionaire entrepreneur also mentioned that XChat will offer “Bitcoin style cryptography”. It is a kind of inappropriate name, since Bitcoin has no cryptography inherently. However, the platform probably comes with the cryptographic techniques that support Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Until the XChat is launched, the application of this technique cannot be declared clearly.

In addition, the post also points out that XChat will support escape messages. This feature is now available on WhatsApp and Instagram, where messages disappear after a certain period when mode is activated. In addition, the DM feature will also bear calls of cross -audio and video. However, Musk did not clarify the name of the platforms that will support this.

Notably, XChat will be available exclusively for X Premium subscribers. The paid signature has three levels, ie basic, premium and premium+. It is unclear which layers will have access to the DM feature.

Last week, the official identifier of X Engineering Posted That the platform was indefinitely pausing the encrypted DMS resource to make “some improvements”. It is believed that the feature was being stopped to push the XChat. Currently, the DM feature is available in the beta version for testers, and the company has not yet started to launch it widely.
