Sony recently unveiled Wh-1000xm6the long -awaited successor to one of Best flagship headphones on the market. The new model brings more improvements to the predecessor, including a significantly faster QN3 processor, better ANC, improved voice quality, longer battery life and more. XM6 also brings some welcome design changes. Sony has reintroduced the folding mechanism of the new model, which was left out on the XM5. The company has also added detachable ear pads for easier replacement and designed a brand new travel case. But that’s not all.
Sony has allegedly also redesigned XM6’s inside, which can improve the repairability. iFixit Has discovered several upgrades that will make the flagship headphones easier to repair. The degradation reveals that the lithium polymer battery that drives the XM6 is attached to a plastic house with two screws instead of double -sided glue, which makes the replacements easy.
The modular plate that houses XM6’s drivers is also held down by Phillips-Head screws and a rubber plugg, which provides easy disassembly. Sony has also created the modular USB-C port, audio connector and button board much easier to access than they were on the XM5. Although the company has not yet shared a repair manual for the headphones, you can expect it to come soon. Sony has published one for the older model, and we do not see why it will not do the same for the latest flagship headphones.
When it comes to replacement parts, Sony currently offers no one for the Wh-1000xm6 or its predecessor. Given that the company actively makes changes to improve the repairability of the headphones, however, there is a chance that it will soon start selling compensation parts.
