  • Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 introduces a background blur in the app drawer, keyyguard and other areas.
  • Activation of battery savings will disable the backdrop effect of the background.
  • Background blures uses more power, so the setting turns off the function.

Google rolled out the long -awaited first public beta for Android 16 last week. The update introduces someone Major changesAs physics -based animations, upgraded app components and new themes. A new background blur effect has also been used throughout the system. If you have installed the beta and this blurry effect does not seem to work for you, we now know the reason.

One of the more visually appealing changes brought by Android 16 is the blurry effect of the new background. This effect appears when you are on the recent screen, the Quick Settings panel, the app drawer and Keyguard. It gives the background a frosted look that feels more expressive than what you get with Android 15. However, some users have recently noticed that this feature does not seem to always work. If this is the case for you, you may want to check the battery settings.

Like turning on a smooth screen or increasing the screen brightness, the blur of this background can empty the battery. It is a feature driven by the GPU, so it uses extra power. As a result, if your phone enters the battery saving mode, it will turn off the effect to maximize the amount of current again in your device.

In the above screens you can see examples of the blur effect and not work in the app drawer and fast settings. We have confirmed on our own devices that turning on battery saving actually beats the background.

The answer is as simple as that. If you turn on battery saving mode, you also turn on blur. Although we think the effect looks nice, it is not quite worth the power drain if the battery is small on juice.
