Nintendo warns that it can bricks over your switch if you do unauthorized use

Although switch 2 will use emulation For the sake of backward compatibility, Nintendo is not a supporter of emulators. The company has often aggressively persecuted fan efforts to create emulators, who when it put down the team behind Yuzu in 2024. It may be more accurate to say that Nintendo fiercely does not like unauthorized use of its products in general. The game publisher is now stepping up the fight against those who hack the console, running emulators and so on by threatening to brick.

First discovered by Gaming fileNintendo has reportedly been busy sending out e -mail to players. E -posten is meant to notify players that the company has made changes to its Nintendo User Account Agreement. If you want to continue using online-connected Nintendo services, such as Eshop, Nintendo Switch Online or some digital games, you must accept the deal.

according to Gaming fileA little over 100 edits were made for the document. While most of the changes appear to be insignificant, it is a strongly formulated part that appears to have been edited to handle some of the headache the company has recently been dealing with. Before the changes read this section:

You are not allowed to rent, rent, underline, publish, copy, change, adjust, translate, reverse engineer, decompile or dismantle all or part of the Nintendo accounting services without Nintendo’s written consent, or unless otherwise expressly allowed in current law.

This particular part has been changed to warn all who hacker or change their console or games, run emulators or engage in piracy that they risk making the console “useless.” Here’s what the extended section says:

Without limitation, you agree that you may not (a) publish, copy, change, reverse engineer, lease, rents, decompiles, dismantle, distribute, offer for sale or create derivatives of any part of Nintendo accounting services; (b) bypass, change, decrypt, defeat, tamper with or otherwise bypass any of the features or protection of the Nintendo accounting services, including through the use of hardware or software that will cause Nintendo accounting services to operate other than in accordance with documentation and calculated use; (c) obtain, install or use unauthorized copies of Nintendo accounting services; or (d) utilize the Nintendo account services in any way other than using them in accordance with current documentation and intended use, in each case, without Nintendo’s written consent or explicit authorization, or unless otherwise expressly permitted in current law. You acknowledge that if you do not comply with the previous limitations, Nintendo can do the Nintendo account services and/or the relevant Nintendo device permanently useless in whole or in part.

It seems that the wording is slightly different and less serious for players in the UK, as pointed out by Nintendo life. This version of the document says:

Any digital products registered in your Nintendo account and any updates of such digital products are only licensed for personal and non-commercial use on a user unit. Digital products should not be used for any other purpose. Especially, without no’s written consent, you must neither lease nor rent digital products or sub -licenses, publish, copy, change, change, adjust, translate, reverse engineer, decompile or dismantle any part of digital products than expressly permitted in current law. Such unauthorized use of a digital product can cause the digital product to become useless.

Nintendo does not clarify what it means with “useless or partially”, but it is most likely refers to disable the device or turn off online services. In related news, Nintendo also updated its Privacy rulesAnd adds that it can listen to the chat to “detect fractures” for the purpose of maintaining a “family -friendly online environment.”
