DJI Osmo Mobile 7p or Osmo Pocket 3? I’m a Creator and that’s how I would choose

Since its launch in 2023, DJI osmo pocket 3 (519 dollars at Amazon) Has become a sensation in the world of content creation. As a creator, I see dozens of them at each technical event. Since I started using one myself, I have convinced wider Android Authority team to adopt it. We now usually have three or four of them with us when we travel to big events such as CES, MWC and Google I/O.

Recently, however, DJI launched another fantastic product that everyone seems to love: the DJI osmo mobile 7p ($ 149.99 at Amazon). It is similar to Pocket 3 in that it is a travel -friendly accessory that helps you capture content quickly and easily. Since it requires one of The best camera phones To work well, it differs significantly from Osmo Pocket 3.

If you are a Creator – or just an enthusiast who likes to document their adventures – you can be on the fence to buy one of these products. Although both are absolutely fantastic, they offer very different experiences at very different prize points. From one creator to another, let me explain the reasons why you should (or should not) buy one of these tools for creating content!

Reasons to go with DJI Osmo Mobile 7p

DJI Osmo Mobile 7p is the newer and cheaper option, so let’s start there. There is a Smartphone Gimbal It stabilizes the phone electronically to help it catch the lubricant video. DJI’s three-axis stabilization is unparalleled in the industry, and Osmo Mobile 7P’s new hardware function-a multifunction module that allows you to lock you on a topic using hand movements-makes this an incredibly powerful video mounting tool.

The Osmo Mobile 7P is relatively cheap and offers a lot of versatility since it works in line with your smartphone.

The most important thing you need to know about this gimbal is that it will only be as good as the phone you smell it. So it is ideal if you already own a great camera phone or are willing to invest in one. This also gives it a clear advantage: Osmo Mobile 7p does not age. The quality of your videos will only get better over time because a) you become better at shooting when you learn the tricks in the trade, and b) You can always snap a newer, better camera phone into Gimbal if you want a picture of higher quality. This is Osmo Mobile 7PS biggest advantage over Osmo Pocket 3, which I want to touch a bit.

Size and weight are also very important for the creator while on the go, and the Osmo Mobile 7p is pretty good in this regard. First, it folds up, which is not a standard function for prose gimbals. When folded, it can easily be filled in a backpack, handbag or even an oversized pocket on trousers, which can be very useful for quick shooting outside the cuff. It also weighs 350g, about as heavy as a box of soup. Given, it is a higher weight than some competitor gimbals, including those from DJI itself. DJI Osmo Mobile 7 ($ 89.99 at Amazon) For example, only 300 g. However, it lacks a lot of the functions of the Osmo Mobile 7p, so it is a trade -off.

Although folded together, Osmo Mobile 7p is quite heavy and cumbersome compared to Osmo Pocket 3.

The aforementioned multifunction module that comes with the Osmo Mobile 7P is also worth noting. It allows you to use the default camera app that controls the cameras in front or backwards on your phone while automatically tracking a topic. For example, this can allow you to set up the gimbal on a stand (it has a standard 1/4-inch mounting and also built-in stand feet, if necessary), track yourself as a subject, and then move around a specified area with the camera that always follows you. This is important for shots where you are alone, but will have some dynamic flair (and will not just keep the phone in the classic vlog style). The multifunction module also supports DJI Mic Mini (169.99 dollars at Amazon), so you can get fantastic sound quality and not rely on the phone’s microphone. It also has a built -in drunk light for a little extra clarity on your topic.

For a list price of $ 149, DJI Osmo Mobile 7p is a fantastic investment for any contents. However, if you factorize the cost of a powerful smartphone with an excellent camera, DJI Mic Mini, a stand and other accessories, it can add up much more than $ 149 if you want a completely independent shooting set. It is also not as travel -friendly as Osmo Pocket 3. Let’s examine one!

In short, Osmo Pocket 3 can do everything Osmo Mobile 7p can do – and more. The decisive difference between the two is that the pocket model is an independent device, which means you do not need to snap a phone in it. In fact, you don’t even need your smartphone at all, as it can perform almost every step to make a video on your own. You just need your phone (or a tablet, laptop or other computer) to edit and post the video.

Osmo Pocket 3 is an independent device, so you don’t need anything else to make your shot. It’s just to edit and post that you need your phone.

This is possible thanks to one-inch CMOS sensor built into the three-axic gimbal on top of pocket 3. Without going into too much technical detail, it is very likely that a one-inch camera sensor is larger (and thus better) than a typical smartphone can provide. It is only recently that we have started to see phones land with a large sensor, and even then these phones are limited to specific markets and very, very expensive.

Osmo Pocket 3 is also much smaller and lighter than an Osmo Mobile 7p. It weighs only 179g, which is smaller than most smartphones. Even when you flip the battery handle (which adds a better grip to the device and increases the operating time significantly), it still weighs only 244g, which is much smaller than the Osmo Mobile 7p on its own, not to say anything of 7p with a smartphone intercepted. In fact, the entire Osmo Pocket 3 shot kit – which includes the device, the battery handle, weighs a wireless microphone, a lavali microphone and different cables and other pieces – weighs only 469g. In other words, whose travelability is your most urgent concern, beats Pocket 3 Mobile 7p by a large margin.

The Osmo Pocket 3 is much more expensive than pretty much some smart telephonimbal and is more likely to age due to the all-in-one nature.

The disadvantage of this is that Osmo Pocket 3 is set in stone. The sensor cannot be upgraded, you can not get any more power out of it by snapping on a smartphone, and what accessory you buy for it will only be useful for it alone. Given that the unit is almost two years old now, it can also have a better successor on the horizon. All this makes it a weaker long -term investment than something like the Osmo Mobile 7p.

It is also the pricing to keep in mind. The creator combination version of Osmo Pocket 3 – which is the only choice for any serious creator – has a list price of $ 799. It’s not cheap. As such, only those who are very sure they will make the most of this should care. However, as I said earlier, virtually all the big creators you know of one of these have, so the usefulness of it cannot be exaggerated.

DJI Osmo Mobile 7p vs Osmo Pocket 3: Maybe both are the real answer?

If a young creator asked me which of these they were going to get, I would ask them how serious they are about the job. If they only test the water to see if it is for them, DJI Osmo Mobile 7p is the way to go. It is relatively cheap, will work well for you for a long time and is very easy to learn. It is not so travel friendly and will only work well if you have a great telephone camera, but it is the best way to get started on shooting professional vlogs.

It is possible that owning both of these products is the way to go, as they each provide clear benefits for certain shoots.

However, if they were an experienced videographer or certainly knew that this would be a significant part of life, I would not hesitate to say that DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is the best choice. It is more expensive, yes, but it is a crucial equipment. It is fast, incredibly easy to use, and Creator Combo gives you everything you need to create video content competing with any prominent youtuber or influencer. DJI has also continuously improved the product, introduced several features, improves video and audio quality and launched new accessories since the release in 2023. Although any DJI Osmo Pocket 4 was launched tomorrow, Pocket 3 would still be fantastic.

However, the real answer to this question may be to use both, as I do. Osmo Pocket 3 is great for capturing a lot of content that can then be edited to a high quality video for later. However, Osmo Mobile 7P shoots the right to a smartphone, so it is ideal for Instagram style videos that need minimal editing before posting. Actually, a flexible creator can find specific uses for both products.
