- Corning has announced its gorilla glass ceramic protective solution.
- This new protective glass is considered to survive 10 repeated drops from one meter on a surface that replicated asphalt.
- Motorola will offer a unit with this glass in the “coming months.”
Corning is considered the top dog for protective glass, with its Gorilla glass are used on many Smartphones And tablets. Now the company has announced a new product that can dramatically reduce cracked screens after drops.
The company just announced Gorilla Glass Ceramic, which, as the name implies, includes ceramic material to improve toughness. For what it’s worth, the company’s more prize Gorilla armor 2 Also uses ceramic materials.
When it comes to durability, Corning lab tests show that the new glass was apparently able to survive 10 repeated drops with one meter on surfaces replicating asphalt (180-grain sandpaper). It is a bit difficult to make direct comparisons with Corning’s popular Gorilla glass Victus. The company previously claimed that the older glass could withstand an unspecified number of a meter droplet on 80-weary sandpaper intended to recreate a rough surface.
Nevertheless, the fact that the company claims a high number of repeated drops for gorilla -glass ceramics strongly suggests the superior drop resistance compared to Victus 2. We have asked Corning how these two protective solutions compare with each other and will update our article accordingly.
Ceramic glass protection gets steam
This is not the first protective solution for ceramic glass. In addition to the previously mentioned Gorilla Armor 2 for Galaxy S25 seriesCorning previously developed ceramic shield for Apple devices. We have also seen Oems develop their own protection of ceramic glass, such as honor and its nanocrystal shield at Magic 7 Pro.
Corning says Gorilla Glass Ceramic will be available on a Motorola device in the “coming months.” So you may not have to wait too long to get a phone with this technology.
We really hope this glass comes to many more Android brands. The company’s Premium Gorilla-Rusting Solution was well received, but limited to Samsung’s flagship phones. So extended accessibility will go a long way to deliver more durable phones throughout the industry.
