Nothing says AI can organize your app drawer but there are only simple categories

I am too AI-driven features that make life better. I was glad when Apple introduced the opportunity to prioritize notifications, and I have trusted Google’s exclusive pixel caller for several years now. Just because AI can be useful doesn’t mean it must be everywhere. Sometimes we should just let our smartphones do smart things. So when I set up my Nothing phone 3a For the first time and opened my app drawer, it let me shake my head.

For what it is worth, I generally like Nothing os. I like that it stays close to an Android experience, but adds enough adaptation through smart widgets and the simple black-and-white color scheme to feel completely unique. I even like nothing that is new important room, an AI-driven journal that you can access from a hardware button on your phone 3A and 3A Pro.

And yet, for all the smart features that nothing has come up with, it is just as comfortable to beat AI on something else that, well, not and call it one day. When I first opened the app drawer on Nothing Phone 3A, it was sorted alphabetically, just as if I was using a Google Pixel. It is the organization I am used to and usually what I prefer, but nothing also made me try the smart app drawer to “exploit the power of AI to support the categorization of your apps.”

As a telephone reviewer who was willing to try anything twice, I chose. I set up the Smart app drawer on my phone 3A Pro, hoping it would put my apps in categories and automatically suggest the ones I used almost daily. To a degree did it – I immediately got folders labeled tools, productivity, social and more, and each was populated with just the right mix of apps. However, as I swept through nothing that are simple organizations, I realized something else – I have used an app drawer like this for years.

For me, nothing feels like the smart app drawer almost exactly as an Android-taste-teat version of Apple’s app library, a feature that has been around since iOS 14 was launched in 2020. And if we know something about Apple, we know it likes to take credit for resuming even the simplest of the Android features. We also know that it organizes the apps in the app library based on their categories in the App Store, so I will be willing to bet that nothing is doing the same with the Play Store.

Unless we want to give Apple the honor to win the AI ​​race two years before nothing started making phones, I don’t think we need to call the smart app drawer anything it is not. Is it smart? Sure. Is it AI? I don’t really think so.
