  • The new Azahar emulator, which allows you to run 3DS titles on Android, is now available for download.
  • This is a release candidate for now, but it can develop into a stable version if no major problems are found.
  • The emulator does not run encrypted games and you cannot use 3DS files as standard.

The popular citra 3DS Emulator was closed earlier this year in the midst of a wider burglary of Nintendo, but a new project called Azahar Filled us with hope. Fortunately, this new emulator is now available for download.

Azahar -Team posted a release candidate for the emulator at Girub During the weekend. The developers said that this was not a stable release, but could develop into one if no major problems are detected during the following seven days.

Azahar’s developers encouraged users to test the emulator to get some problems before the promotion for a full release and asked users to report the problem via Github.

“If you are not willing to tolerate potential minor problems, you may be able to wait until a release candidate is promoted for a full release,” the developers warned. In other words, you should not expect a perfect release right away. And you should not expect your potato phone to run many games at first (if ever).

What should I know about this first release?

This emulator does not allow the launch of encrypted games and .3DS files as standard. Instead, Azahar uses CCI files for games. However, the team says it also works to change the extension of files from 3DS to CCI.

Still, this first release brings a few remarkable features and fixes. The most remarkable addition is easily the ability to disable “Right Eye Rendering.” Nintendo 3DS provided games for both left and right eyes, which is useful for 3D-enabled titles, but wasted resources when playing 2D games. In fact, developers claim a performance increase of up to 50% when they only reproduce one eye.

In any case, this release is good news for 3DS emulation on Android. So we hope it continues to receive plenty of love from the developers and manages to avoid falling badly by Nintendo.
