We dug into the latest version of the Android Auto app (14.0.151144-release.daily) and discovered lots of more strings related to climate control features. These strings point to functions such as the ability to replace air conditioning on and off, “Auto” and “Sync” mode, and even the ability to thaw the forward or rear windows. Check out the strings below.

SYNC We are not quite sure what Auto mode entails, but we assume it will automatically adjust temperatures and other settings based on a number of factors (eg previously specified preferences). Digging a little deeper into the app also suggests that “synchronization mode can synchronize driver and passenger temperatures. We also discovered references to seat temperature, recycling, seat ventilation, side level and steering wheel heat, fan speed and more.
Furthermore, we have got our first apparent look at a few icons associated with these climate controls, namely recycling and windshield avian icons. Check them out in the picture below.

In any case, all this suggests that Android Auto is getting a massive upgrade as far as the controls in the car go. The real question is whether any car manufacturers are already on board with this functionality, or if Google is just building it in the hope that car manufacturers eventually use it. However, I hope that all car brands that use these Android car features retain physical control for climate control and defrost.
