- Current rumors suggest that Google could officially announce Pixel 9a sometime in March.
It looks like we might get official news about Pixel 9a Before rather than later. Over the past few days, leaks around Google’s upcoming Midtranger have raised pace. The phone first made a surprising performance in A youtube video about the Galaxy S25 EdgeAnd now, the same Youtu Have gone a step further and posted a practical video with what appears to be a legitimate Pixel 9a device.
While the original video has been taken down, technological youtuber Shane Craig Managed to upload it on threads and gave us our most detailed look at the device so far. (H/T: Android headlines)
We already knew that Google was moving away from the camera director designed on all Pixel phones so far, but now we have a much clearer idea of what Pixel 9a will actually look like. The phone has a flat back with a matte finish, Signature Google logo and an almost flush camera module, which is a significant departure from the raised visor style in the Pixel family.
Furthermore, it seems that the phone will have a metallic frame, probably aluminum, with visible antenna lines along the edges. However, the back appears to be made of plastic, although the matte finish gives it a more refined look compared to glossy alternatives.
The practical video shows the black color variant, which, if previous Pixel name conventions hold, are likely to be called “Obsidian.” However, this iteration looks more muted than ever, without any real visual elements – especially now that the camera module is practically disappearing in the back.
While I am generally the team ‘matte black,’ I must admit that the phone could have used some contrasting visual elements such as colored accents around the buttons or camera island. Google has introduced some fun colors for its A-series phones lately, so we hope at least one of them brings a little more flair to this design.
Although the leaked video does not provide any details about specifications or software, current rumors suggest that Pixel 9a will officially be announced sometime in March. That means we don’t have to wait too long to get the complete image of the phone.
