- The APS3E PS3 emulator has been removed from GITHUB, possibly due to copyright and licensing problems.
- Developer Aenu’s account also appears to have been removed.
- Aps3e had quickly risen to fame in recent days to bring PS3 templation of quality to Android.
In a sudden and somewhat expected move, Aps3e EmulatorAs briefly, the tension among Android players in the hope of mimicking PS3 titles on its devices has disappeared from GitHub.
The project was developed by a developer known as Aenu, and may have been taken down after increasing concern about copyright problems, especially when it comes to using code from open source RPCS3 PC emulator. Github pages For both the APS3E emulator and its creator account, a 404 error now returns.
Aps3e had quickly risen to fame in recent days for bringing working PS3 templation to Android. However, the Red Flag began to emerge when the developer, Aenu, who identified in vague terms as a “Chinese developer who lived in the countryside, began to seek donations in exchange for the source code.
What was even more disturbing was the claim that the project, despite being built on the Open Source RPCS3 emulator, was done with a closed source. This is a clear violation of Github’s General Public Licenses (GPL), which states that any derivative software based on other open source work cannot be closed.
Meanwhile, the RPCS3 emulator for PS3 emulations remains on PC open source and freely available. During the Open Source licenses, it is not okay to disguise the project, but it is not okay to create a closed source code version based on the work.
What is happening now?
While the APS3E emulator has been removed from Github, users who had previously installed APK should still be able to use it, at least in theory.
Some users report that the emulator is unstable, with games that either fail to launch or crash unexpectedly.
“I’ve tipped this thing for a few hours, and I can’t make any games work. I got a couple of them to start up, but after a little while they just crash unexpectedly while they also make my phone a hot pocket and ate my battery, “a user wrote on Reddit.
We need to test and see what condition the emulator is in now, but our first testing showed that it mostly worked out of the box, and requires some extra steps and solutions.
The abrupt disappearance of the Emulator and developer from Github leaves the future of Aps3e uncertain. As of today, Android users still have no official support for PS3 emulation, with RPCS3’s developers chooses not to pursue An Android version due to toxic users and the spread of fraud labels on the platform.
