How many times have you been looking forward to a high -profile smartphone launch, just to get your expectations stroked when the early reports start to enter: The new phone is basically the same old thing we had before, just dressed in a shining new outer ?? Most of the time there is a certain degree of hyperbole in it, but today we check out an instance where that approach was taken quite literally.
Over on Reddits /R /Hackintosh Sub, user Oceandepth95028 Shares their Frankenphone creation: What they call NokiaPle Lumiphone 1020 SE. Essentially, we look at the intestine of an iPhone SE (2022) pushed into the hollowed -out cadaver of an old Nokia Lumia 1020 Windows Phone Handset.
Although that kind of approach is probably the most sensible way to handle a total conversion like this one also means leaving perhaps the best reason to hold onto a Lumia 1020: its big 41MP, 2/3-inch camera. Unfortunately, going to make room for the Apple machine product, but fortunately, iPhone’s 12MP replacement fits well enough. Really, the only component that manages to stay around from the Windows Phone days is the phone’s front glass. And no, before you start to get hoped for: The camera’s xenon flash also had to be sacrificed, and although it is still physically present, the iPhone cannot benefit from it.
To get this switcheroo to work, Oceandepth95028 had to relocate some of the iPhone machine product to fit into the new Lumia home. Perhaps the biggest there is to move the Touch ID home button back under the camera -kind of throwback to Android phones like the LG G6. There is also some redirecting that happens with selfie cam, so it is now in the normal sport for 1020.
Other changes include sealing the headphone connector (sorry, analog fans), switching the micro USB port for lightning, and the smart feature to connect Lumia’s camera raising button to the iPhone volume-down control, since it lacks a dedicated camera outfit.
Oceandepth95028 mentions this project as a customized disposable building, so if you want your own iPhone-designed Nokia Lumia, you better draw out a soldering iron and will work for yourself.
