The Trimui Murmstone is the ideal gaming handout for classic retro games while on the go. It is small, easy, and most importantly, very affordable.
If you are like me, you can’t cope with being out in public without anything to occupy your thoughts. Ever since I was a kid, there have been games. It started with handheld as Game Boy and PSP, then Mobile games and emulators When they matured on Android, but as soon as I got my hands on a cheap game handheld, all the pieces fell into place.
But when it comes to taking one with me outside the house, most people are too big or too expensive. I already have a phone that costs almost a month’s rent, so I don’t need the extra stress of breaking another costly thing. But it is a handheld with the right mix of size, features and price to earn a space in my bag every time I leave the house. The handheld is the trimui wall.
A game boy for modern times

The Trimui smart pro (95.99 dollars at Amazon) Was one of my first forums back to the handheld market, and I still love it to bits, so when the trimui murme came out late last year, it immediately caught my attention. Smart Pro and Brick both have the same chipset, which is able to retro play up to and including PS1, but the brick has a vertical, game-boy-like form factor.
Admittedly, it’s much smaller than an Old-School Game Boy, so it fits perfectly in a pocket or bag. There are many devices like this, especially the Miyoo Mini and Miyoo Mini Plus, but the trimui murmin looks and feels more premium. Part of that is the building quality, but most are down on the lovely 4: 3 screen. The 400 ppi screen is much better than anything else in the price bracket of $ 100.

The controls are a bit tight, which you expect from a device of this size, but they are still great for shorter sessions. There is also no joystick, so I played mostly older retro games. In fact, I actually liked that there are no sticks since they tend to be trapped in their pockets or bags. Low profiles, like those at Trimui Smart Pro, are not my cup of tea.
The lack of sticks didn’t have much effect on my gambling either. The handhelds and consoles I ememulated usually did not have sticks, and those who were not ideal on the 4: 3 screen. For example, the aspect ratio of 16: 9 of PSP games means handling huge black bars. Other consoles with joysticks, such as Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast, are also on the limits of what is possible with this chipset, so I would recommend sticking to older consoles.
The real test: Children

My trimui brick came just before the holidays, so instead of installing custom firmware and cleaning the rooms, I took it on a family trip straight out of the box. Running Trimui Stock Linux OS (you can switch to other platforms like Crossmix if you want to enter the work), it comes pre-configured with emulators, rooms and even a few ports.
The trip involved my wife’s whole side of the family, so I figured I had to sneak away for a little quiet time. And that’s exactly what I did. As an introvert, being around people is extremely drainage all the time. Fast, 10-minute sessions were enough to clear my mind from all the noise.
However, when my nieces and nephews were windy of it, the trimui murmin became the star of the holidays. Even after Santa Claus dropped by Lego sets, paints, action figures and all kinds of toys, the kids would only have a new one go to Kirby’s dreamland or Frogger.

I hadn’t thought of it beforehand, but the simple controls and the small size do good for small. This is a great “baby’s first emulation apparatus” to get your child to retro games. The same goes for adults who are not so familiar with games.
The trimui wall is built as one, well, brick.
Usually I would not let the kids go anywhere near my things, but this one is different. Not only is it built as one, well, brick, but it is also cheap enough that I do not need to stress about replacing it. It is officially priced at $ 79.99, but you can get it for between $ 60- $ 80 depending on the sale and the size of the MicroSD card, which is about the cost of a single new AAA game.
Trimui Brick Review Verdict: My New Everyday Carry Handheld

Now that the holiday is over and we are far into 2025, the trimui murmin has earned a permanent place in my bag. I often take it on the bus or while I wait for my kids to finish school, even for just a few minutes. It has largely replaced the addictive mobile games I used to play, which is probably good for my general mental health.
There are no more daily tasks, limited events or matches. Only the retro platforms and classic RPGs from childhood. I would feel stupid to mimic these games on my PC or a larger device, but on the trimui murmin it is perfect.

The lifetime of the battery is also fantastic, and it does not suffer from the battery drain that many other handheld have while suspended. Since I only play for 10 or 15 minutes at a time, this can last for days or even weeks before I need an order. Charging speeds are not very fast, then plan if you take a long trip.
I suspect that the trimui murme will be a permanent feature in my bag in the years to come.
My only real complaint is that it comes pre-installed with some modern indie games that Balatro. Retro games are one thing, but that game came out last year and deserves to be bought and played on a device with a larger screen than this, so you can actually see all the cards. There are also many garbage rooms on the trimui wall in general, so in the end you have to go through and clean up things. While you are in on it, you will replace the entire MicroSD card, since the cheap models that come with these devices are not built to last.
Ultimately, this is a wonderfully small handheld for just about anyone. Similar game boys style devices as Miyoo Mini (79.99 dollars at Amazon) Starting to show its age and more premium options like Ayaneo Pocket DMG is outside the price range I want to pay, so I suspect that the trimui murme will be a permanent feature in my bag in the years to come.
