Give me a pixel 10 swirl

OnePlus 13, Pixel 9 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro are dull smartphone names.

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

When Google launched the latest Pixel series last year, there was a mumbling of excitement around the name of the smartphones. Google had revived the XL monicist for the Pixel 9 Pro XL, a suffix that has not been seen since the Pixel 4 lineup. The fact that this caused even a minor stir tells you a lot about iOS and iOS and Android -Phone industry.

Phone name conventions in recent years are boring, and it bothers me. Max, plus, pro and ultra have been so over -used that they are all meaningless – if they have ever offered a lot of meaning in the first place.

There is little point in complaining. Big brands know as well as I do how boring and repetitive names are, but you can be sure that market research is behind the continuity of unit names. People know the score if upcoming smartphone Have the same series with names as the last. They already know what the next Samsung or Apple phones will be called and they are safe in that knowledge – well, except that Galaxy S25 Edge Curve ball. The manufacturers are welcome to take advantage of this and maybe maximize the revenue, but I will still see them as boring and uninspired.

Do you like modern smartphone names?

It’s not just the smartphone names that are boring

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Fanned in Hand

C. Scott Brown / Android Authority

Smartphone names may seem like a small thing to get annoyed with, but they bothers me because they overall the industry. Refused to take a risk with more interesting names reflect a lack of imagination or fear of being bold in the market, and you can see it in almost every aspect of modern flagships.

This will not have escaped your notice. With the exception of foldingThe design of most flagshipsmartphones is depressing corpses. It may be optimal for use, but I can’t help but it may be easier to sell the next fans’ next gene smart phone if it doesn’t look identical with its predecessor.

Design, features, colors – all about phones are boring the same now. So why not names too?

The same goes for functions. Where are IR blasters, module-based accessories or pop-up cameras? What about new and innovative features? We know where all these things are; They are in the design room, after being rejected to make the next handset half a millimeter thinner, just like colleagues.

You will find the same nod to conformity in each element of flagship phones. The marks do not even show much more variation in the color department – Samsung galaxy s25 colors Is boring similar – but at least the names of the colors are relatively interesting sometimes. Colors like Sage, Onyx and Sapphire would give better names on the actual units than the same old labels.

Not all brands play it safely

While the Humdrum name conventions appear to increase, there is some opposition to the trend. Some phones still have marginally more interesting monics, especially when you look past Samsung, Apple and Google. OnePlus north breaks the shape a bit, and Motorola has more variety, if not imagination, with the G game, g power, g stylus, and so on. Some of the Chinese brands are also a little more ambitious, with names like Realme GT Neo and Nubia Redmagic.

Even the biggest players have dipped with naming tension in the past. Samsung has had the galaxy beam, galaxy Alfa and Samsung Omnia. Google took a risk with Nexus. Apple has not even lost itself so far from the convention but at least iPhone 17 Air Will be slightly different if it will be shown later this year.

Telephone producers should notice from Garmin. ‘Fenix’ and ‘Instinct’ are, for example, good names.

We also know that Humdrum and repetitive names are not necessary to succeed in the technology world. For example, Garmin is one of the biggest players in Smartwatch industry. The portable names include Quantix, Fenix, Forerunner and Instinct. Telephone producers should take note of.

Forget Max and Ultra – these are names worth using

For all multinational smartphone manufacturers who are still reading, I am more than happy to offer my own name suggestions to your next generation of hand sets. And I do it free – no marketing budget necessary, just select one from the list.

I want names that sound cool and evoke feelings of speed or power. It is also useful if a series of names suggests that phones have higher or lower specifications, such as being able to identify this may be part of the reason Apple goes with Pro Max and Samsung with Ultra every year. We will also avoid certain words – an earthquake in Google Pixel or OnePlus tornado can be problematic if a natural disaster occurs.

iPhone 17 Helios, Apollo, Zeus

The next iPhones should have better smartphone names.

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

In Greek mythology, Helios Titan of the Sun was, and cycled his burning carriage across the sky every day. He is a natural starting point for an entrance level-level unit, but not a God. Apollo takes things further and embodies light, knowledge and artistry. But at the top is Zeus, the undisputed ruler of the Olympus, who commands thunder and dominion over both gods and mortals. All of these would be good for Apple’s pride and dreams of greatness and for the fans’ confidence.

OnePlus 14 Chimera, Griffin, Phoenix

Mythical animals would be ideal telephone names for OnePlus, which involves a sense of power and groundbreaking technology. The Chimera was a wild fusion of creatures – a lion, a snake and a goat – symbolizing unpredictability and raw potential. The griffin, the part lion and some eagle, was a noble guardian, and combined strength and wisdom. Phoenix is a legendary bird that bursts into flames just to be reborn and more powerful. LG even used this name for a telephone area a few years ago.

Samsung Galaxy 26 Meteor, Comet, Supernova

Feeling forces make so much sense to Samsung’s galaxy line. A meteor is a quick and volatile fire over the sky. The comet is more lasting, comes back on predictable cycles (like a phone) and burns brighter with each pass. And then there is supernova, a cosmic explosion of unthinkable force that leaves a lasting impact on the universe.

Google Pixel 10 Origin, Evolution, Apex – and yes, swirl

OnePlus Open vs Pixel 9 Pro 4

Dhruv Bhutani / Android Authority

If we look at a telephone’s development as a journey, it begins with a originating model that everything grows from. Evolution is the process of refining, strength and adapting; Then comes the tip, which is the top and culmination of all progress. I like these names of the Pixel family, especially now that it reaches its 10th anniversary.

And if the rumors are true and the whole Pixel family switches to its own piece, perhaps Vortex is the right name, pointing to a powerful and transformative process in Google’s line-up.

Motorola Spark, Pulse, Surge (2025)

This would be a pretty naked attempt to project the flow of power, which sits well with Motorola’s motto. A spark is a flickering of energy and the first ignition moment, which will make sense for a unit at the entrance level. The pulse follows and carries that energy forward. Then comes the wave of unstoppable power from the premium flagship.

Xiaomi Blink, Kiss, Joy

If it’s all a little highbrow, Xiami can use popular culture with smartphone names derived from three of the most common emojis. The entrance level is peasing the potential of the lineup, and the kiss is something everyone likes to receive. The joy-derived from the face with tears of joy-themed mirrors maximum happiness for the top level.
