One of the first National Security Directives of the Trump administration aims to defend against missile and drones attacks addressed to the United States, and several elements of the plan require an expansion of the presence of the US army in space, the Monday announced on Monday the White House.
For more than 60 years, the military has launched satellites of recognition, communications and missile warning in orbit. Trump’s executive order demands that the Pentagon create a design architecture, requirements and an implementation plan for the next -generation missile defense shield within 60 days.
A key principle of Trump order It is to develop and implement space -based interceptors capable of destroying enemy missiles during its initial impulse phase shortly after launch.
“The United States will provide the common defense of its citizens and the nation by deploying and maintaining a next -generation antimile defense shield,” reads the order. “The United States will deter, and defend its citizens and critical infrastructure against any foreign air attack against the homeland.”
The White House described the Defense Shield of missiles as an “iron dome for the United States”, referring to the name of the Regional Antimisile Defense System of Israel. While Israel’s Iron Dome adapts to short -range missiles, the White House said the US version will be protected against all kinds of air attacks.
What really does the order say?
Trump’s order is prescriptive in what to do, but leaves the implementation of the Pentagon. The White House said the military plan should defend many types of aerial threats, including ballistic, hypersonic and advanced cruise missile scope.
